Stories From the Field: The Three-Story Move-Out

Some houses you walk into and think, “Alright, this won’t be too bad.” This was not one of those houses. We felt unbelievably small. The job was in the Wiregrass area and a 4,600 square foot move-out clean , and when we walked in the first thing we noticed was the stairs. Not one set… but three full stories worth. Immediately you start doing the math in your head. “How many times am I about to walk up and down these today?”

Answer: a lot.

The House

The home itself was beautiful. Three stories, natural stone floors in several areas, a huge kitchen, and even a billiard room. Homes like this are fun to work in, but they also remind you pretty quickly that square footage adds up. When you're cleaning a home this size you have to stay organized or you’ll end up running in circles all day.

So the rule is simple: Start at the top and work your way down.

Dust, fans, vents, surfaces, trim — everything gets handled before the floors.

The Kitchen

The kitchen was one of those kitchens where you start wiping surfaces and realize there's a lot more surface than you first thought. Cabinets, countertops, edges, corners… it just keeps going. But when it’s finished and everything is wiped down and fresh, it makes the whole space feel new again.

The Stairs

By midday we were very familiar with the stairs. If someone had asked how many times we went up and down them, the honest answer would be somewhere between “too many” and “we probably hit a fitness goal today.”

But that’s part of cleaning large homes; it’s not just cleaning, it’s a lot of walking too.

The Billiard Room

One of the cooler rooms in the house was the billiard room. Not every house has one of those. Even spaces like that still need the same attention to detail though. Dusting, surfaces, trim, floors, making sure everything looks ready for the next people who walk through the door.

The Final Walkthrough

One of the best parts of move-out cleaning is the final walkthrough. You start the day with a house that still feels lived in, and by the time you finish it feels reset — quiet, clean, and ready for whoever comes next.

That’s always a good feeling at the end of a long job.
